On March 17, Canada welcomed 183 Express Entry applicants to register for permanent residency.
Candidates with a minimum score of 682 are invited by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This CRS score criterion may seem high, but that is because anyone who was invited has previously accepted a nomination from a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Candidates who receive a provincial nomination for Express Entry receive an extra 600 points on top of their initial human capital score. Without the provincial nomination, anyone who received the minimum score of 682 will have received a CRS score of 82.
Candidates with a minimum score of 682 were only considered if they submitted their Express Entry profile before the tie-break deadline of March 4, 2021, at 16:56:20 UTC. IRCC releases the tie-break rule cut-off period as an administrative requirement, regardless of whether or not there was a tie.
This is the second time in a row that a PNP-specific draw has been held. On March 8, 671 PNP applicants were invited to apply for permanent residency in Canada.
The IRCC holding two consecutive PNP draws is an unusual occurrence, according to Attorney David Cohen, Senior Partner of Campbell Cohen. This means that IRCC is committed to supporting provinces and regions as much as possible in fulfilling their labour market demands during the pandemic.
Canada has released 38,840 invitations to apply so far this year (ITA). This is almost three times the amount of ITAs released by IRCC at the same time last year. Because of the low number of new immigrants welcomed in 2020, Canada has set a lofty goal of 401,000 newcomers in 2021. The bulk of the available spots in Canada have been reserved for Express Entry newcomers.
The vast majority of these invites were issued by IRCC on Saturday, February 13, when it issued 27,332 ITAs. Not only was it the largest Express Entry draw in a record, but it also had a CRS requirement of 75, which was traditionally poor. In that draw, any single Express Entry applicant who was qualifying for the Canadian Experience Class was invited to apply for permanent residence.
How does the Express Entry process?
The Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class all use Express Entry as their application management system.
You will be given a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System if you are qualifying for one of these services. These points are dependent on the human capital variables including age, schooling, job experience, and English or French language ability.
You should apply as a single individual or a couple. You are not required to have a work offer, but having one can give you an advantage. It is not mandatory to have already served or trained in Canada, but IRCC is prioritising candidates that are still in the country during the pandemic.
Via Daily Express Entry rounds of invitation, the highest-scoring applicants receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency. Following your application, IRCC will make a definitive determination about whether you will be granted permanent residency. They will give you a Confirmation of Permanent Residency if you are accepted. For authorised permanent residents, the final step is to complete the landing procedure in Canada and apply for a PR Card. After that, you are considered permanent residents of Canada and can apply for citizenship.
